Not Enough

It Wasn’t Too Much—Be Honest, You Were Not Enough

We hear it all the time: “They were doing too much.” But let’s be real—was it too much, or were you just unwilling to rise to the occasion? The truth is, when something requires us to step up, put in effort, or demand more of ourselves, we’re quick to label it as excessive. But deep down, it’s not that the standard was too high—it’s that we weren’t willing to do the work to meet it.

The Hard Truth: Growth Requires Work

Personal growth doesn’t happen by accident. It takes work, commitment, and self-motivation—things that no one else can give you. No one can hold your hand through every level of your evolution. At some point, you have to decide that you want better and be willing to do better.

Stepping up means:

Confronting the parts of yourself that are resisting change

Taking accountability for your shortcomings

Recognizing when you’re making excuses

Pushing through discomfort because you know the outcome is worth it

It’s easy to point fingers and say that someone else’s expectations were too much. But what if, instead, you asked yourself: Was I really giving my all? Was I really showing up as my best self? Or was I just avoiding the work?

No One Can Do This For You

The hardest part about stepping up is that no one can force you to. Sure, people can inspire you, guide you, or challenge you, but at the end of the day, you have to be the one to move. There’s no coach, no mentor, no friend that can do the work for you. You have to hold yourself accountable.

And if you don’t? Life will keep bringing you back to the same lesson until you finally get it. Avoiding the work now only makes it harder later. You don’t get to skip steps—you only delay them.

Stop Labeling Growth as “Too Much”

If something is requiring you to rise higher, that’s not a bad thing. That’s an opportunity. Instead of saying, “This is too much,” shift your mindset to:

“What is this teaching me?”

“How can I stretch myself to meet this challenge?”

“Where am I holding myself back?”

Because here’s the truth: If you don’t step up now, you’ll just have to face it later—probably under even harder circumstances. Growth isn’t about convenience. It’s about commitment.

So stop running from the work. Step up. Show up. Rise. Because the next level is waiting for you—but only if you are willing to do what it takes to get there.
