Letting Go

I’ve had my truck for 5 years. This last year was tough but the last 6 months was even tougher. My goal was to pay off my truck and wait at least six months before I purchased a new vehicle. I wanted to invest more money into my myself and my businesses but as life would have it, it would not turn out that way. I tried everything to keep her alive. I gave her a brand new start, an alternative life, cell replacement, gave her a brake, and even helped her stay warm when her thermometer went out. She had unusual sized feet and needed special shoes that weren’t carried in every tire store and would cost almost $150 each for the least expensive shoe. She was dying and I knew it but I tried to hold on at every cost to revive her.

Have you ever tried to hold on to something that you knew that you should let go of but you think that you can revive it, or make it better? I have on many occasions. Sometimes trying to hold on to things you make it worse. If I would’ve just traded my truck in when I saw that it was dying instead of spending all of that money to keep her alive I’d have more money in my bank account and could of possibly been further along in my endeavors. You would think that by now that I would know exactly when to let go, start over, or keep moving; but it has been a lesson that I’ve had to learn quite a few times. These past couple of years I’ve had to let go of a lot of things and people. It has all been to my betterment but it wasn’t easy at all. Today, I am happy and living my best life but I anticipate the next thing that I’ll have to let go of. What about you? How good are you about letting things go?

Suicide or Legacy

The words “Legacy is Intentional” ran through the forefront of my mind like rushing water this morning. I thought about the legacy I almost didn’t leave, and the accomplishments made from a person who contemplated suicide almost daily from the age of 12 to about 28. I gave in to thoughts about the consequences my actions could’ve held if I had been successful. I ponder the businesses I’ve started since and the Interviews I’ve done with some of Michigan’s up and coming as well as seasoned thought leaders, speakers, authors, journalist, and artists. What if I hadn’t been here to share some of the stories that I have been privy to hear, the account of lives transformed from incarceration, death, spiritual defamation, travesty, sickness, mental health, and other such causes.

My intention twenty years ago to leave a different legacy not for myself but for those who would come behind me ultimately made me look at life in a different way. I had to transform my own thoughts to believe that I can be me, live in the world, and succeed. I understood that I am purposed in life to be who I am so that abundance or blessings that would occur could not be said to have been something that I had done; but the work of a higher power. In my platform I talk about things that others would call faults being gifts that were given to us and how we utilize those gifts or not, is the determining factor of our destiny. I pray that I have been a blessing in the lives of others and that I been of value to all the lives that I have touched. If not, I believe that I still have time left.

Entrepreneurship- When the worst happens

I had what some could call a major setback in business. For about two weeks I had something grow from minor to major. I kept my patience through it all. Not because I had to but because I wanted to. I was determined to have a great outcome no matter what the circumstances looked like. Near the end, just before they told me there was nothing further that could be done I said to myself “Sometimes things happen to help you move from good to great. This is your opportunity to take what you have left and rebuild it into something better.” I did just that. Still not completed but it ‘is’ better and I’m proud to say that I didn’t lose my cool. I worked through it and things actually turned out better than they were prior to what could’ve been a catastrophe if I had given in to it. Next time all seems to be going wrong in your world, stop for a moment and look for the opportunities; The ones that seem hidden below the pile of issues from whatever circumstances, yes, those. Look for the opportunity to make ‘better’ what has gone wrong in order to make it go right.

Self Awareness- Carrying Past Hurts

Self-awareness begins with taking a deep, hard, long look at who you are from the inside out. It’s also about taking the time to know those things that have hurt you, shamed you, made you feel guilty, and understand the pain that you may still carry from those issues. When we don’t take the time to heal those past hurts we carry them as residuals to every place we go. Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt like you didn’t belong? Not because the people weren’t like you but because you felt some type of low self-esteem. Sometimes it’s because we haven’t cleared up those negative energies that won’t allow us to feel like we’re worthy of the blessings that we have entered into. When we feel unworthy we walk in with our heads hanging down, or with nervous energy, anxiety, or just plain ole’ doubt or fear. In order to build your confidence, take the time to go through your past hurts, pains, shames, fears, and doubts with a fine tooth comb. Recognize them for what they were, understand why they happened, how you feel about them and begin to work through them so that you can move past them. It is imperative to work on these issues to help you the individual, but to also have a life-long brand that your self esteem and character can keep. If you don’t, trust me it will continue to affect how you walk into ‘any’ room, especially the ones you’ve got clearance to be in.

Business Confession- Consummate Professional

I have to make a confession. Maybe it’s not really a confession and most of you who know me have peeped it out. My partner calls me the consummate professional. I have a serious nature and most people know that but I too have a very silly side as well. My best qualities are that I have a take charge attitude, and laser-like focus when in business. Being the consummate professional, it has been hard for me to be what one would call ‘personable’ while doing business. This has been something that I’ve had to work on intentionally. Most people who I’ve worked with will tell you that I am professional that’s no doubt but I’ve had to learn to be intentional about asking about their day and how they are doing rather than just getting down to business. I understand that most people want to work with people that they like and enjoy so I’ve had to learn to be more personable in my business dealings rather than being all business and not relational. What have you had to work on personally with regards to business acumen?

Aligning Yourself In Business- (Business Alignment)

Alignment: a state of agreement or cooperation among persons, groups, nations, etc., with a common cause or viewpoint. A Business alignment is a collective effort that requires the intellectual contribution of all parties within the partnership.

Quick Tip:
“Aligning yourself with the right people will accelerate your process, project, brand, or business. The collaborative efforts of individual gifts enriches a partnership. Everyone who looks busy isn’t always busy. If you align yourself with people that you have to tell what to do and they bring nothing to the table but money they are an investor, not a partner. Partners get down in the mud with you. Seek to work with people that have strengths in areas where yours are Under-developed, and remember that Investors rarely “do” anything. Investors only put their money in because they believe in you or your vision. Being in alignment brings peace, growth, and stability to the partnership, the work, and the outcome. Get aligned!
