The things you say about me belongs to you
I will not take them in, swallow, and then chew
I will not respond with words because there’s something you don’t like
Choosing my battles wisely for that I definitely won’t fight
The Creator has given me different eyes to see
So I recognize that what you’re giving doesn’t belong to me
When you spew words of judgement and choose to be unkind
I will turn a deaf ear, time after time
If from me there is negativity that you ultimately seek
I will not approve you and give you my words to speak
For that energy belongs to you, to give in or to give out
But before I let you change my focus and begin to shout
I’ll recognize your need to aid in my fall
And to the Creator I’ll place my one and only call
You see, the Creator has given me different eyes to see
So I recognize that what you’re giving doesn’t belong to me
If I allow you to take me off my square
I give you permission to noticeably be there
But before I allow you to be captain of my demise
I’ll do something better and allow you the surprise
Because the Creator has given me different eyes to see
So I recognize that doesn’t belong to me
When you seek to try and change my name
Make me hold my head down with eyes of shame
I’ll look up to the one whose name I can call
No need to look down and begin to fall
The Creator has given me different eyes to see
So I recognize that doesn’t belong to me
If I stop to check you and go off on my own
That’ll change my direction and your words will be shown
But the Creator whose held charge over my life
Will check those who give me heartache and strife
I will never hold your words as in decree
That’s like saying “That belongs to me”!
