>Pondering

>When I allow my mind to ponder
I tend to consider the Earth’s wonders
I wish I would’ve been there as the Creator formed the Canyons
I’d like to see the perfection of Adam & Eve as companions
If I could but stop by to see the slaves picking cotton
I would also let Emmet Till know he’d never be forgotten
I wonder how it felt when the 1st African American voted
And I wonder how little Barack Obama’s Mother doted
I wonder if Harriet Tubman was ever afraid
Or if she realized her destiny was bigger than just the slaves
I wonder if Malcolm X knew his time was short
So he gave everything he could without losing his sorts
I wonder why Martin Luther King thought it necessary to be non-violent
And what would’ve happened if he had kept silent
I wonder what would’ve happened if the Black Panthers hadn’t taken care of their own
Or if there would’ve been someone else to step up or would they have known
I wonder when my people will remember that they are still Kings & Queens
And why they are so easy to let go of our communal Dreams
I wonder when they’ll begin to band together
And when they’ll stop allowing distractions to determine our weather
I wonder if we’ll ever be like the days of old
How Black was Beautiful and we treated each other like Gold
I wonder when we’ll stop talking at one another
And when we’ll remember once again that we are the keepers of our Brothers
