>You Can’t Make Me Into You

>When you were a child I required you to think just like me
When you went left, I pulled you back right to make you a mini me
When you said there was something that you did not like
I fed it over and over until eventually you gave up your fight
As you grew older you became my replicated copy
I even bought myself a new ride and gave you the keys to my old Jalopy
I told you that you had to do the things I wanted so you could have my love
And each time you exceeded my expectations I treated you with kid gloves
But the day you told me you’ve decided to do things your own way
I took my unconditional love back on that very same day
You see every time you tell me what you like and I tell you that’s not good
I never allow you to like what you like just because I should
I impress my ways and opinions on your impressionable mind
And I do it so much that you don’t know which thoughts are yours and which thoughts are mine
Not to mention when you do something that may not be considered the “Norm”
I’d rather make you another copy than an individual to avoid the societal storm
You see it’s really not about your happiness but it’s all about mine
I’ll even try to tell you that everyone will treat you unkind
Instead of me standing up for you just because that’s what I’m supposed to do
I act just like everyone else like you’re the one with the issue
I tell you that’s not how a boy or girl is supposed to act
When you haven’t seen me nor your Father do the same things to be exact
But I tell you what you do is not natural and you were not born that way
Even when I’ve watched you grow up and see that you haven’t changed a bit since your very 1st Birthday
Now you’re dealing with issues because I told you that it’s a sin to be you
And in your mind you suffer because your life isn’t authentically true
When it is God who knew you from your Mother’s womb
And it was his choice to still love you and not seal you up within a tomb
I think he wanted us all to learn the greatest commandment which is love
And when we do, it is only then that we will rise above
