When I do not tell you what’s at stake
Or if my laughter sounds hypothetically fake
That’s because you’re not as important as I

Even when someone else doesn’t encourage what you do
Or when you try to do better and the compliments are few
Know that you are better than that

When someone seems to knock you down
Or hold your head to the ground
Know that you are truly better than that

Even if you are the one who doesn’t always realize
When someone else is mentally growing in size
Try to be better than that

Especially when it might be all up to you
To give another their just due
Be better than that
