>Don’t Be Selfish

>How could we be selfish that when someone has been ill for a very long time
That when they tell us that they are tired we think that is a crime
How could we ever understand mentally & physically what they go through on a daily basis
And not to mention the strength that they have to portray rather than look at the sadness on our faces
Everyday we give them the speech about how much they must carry on
Because truly we are being selfish to think about the pain that we’ll feel when they are gone
Why don’t we ever think about maybe the pain & suffering that they might be going through
Rather than thinking of keeping them alive & what we must do
At first it really is about beating the illness and the fight to stay alive
But why is it up to us to make the decision to contrive
When pieces of them are being damaged and taken every day
But all we can think about is here they must stay
Why don’t we just be a support system and listen to them when they talk
But we get upset not showing any strength and away we must walk
Why is it that they must be our strength and carry our load
While all the while its their life to forebode
When is it time that we’ll allow them to give up the ghost
Than being our refuge or even our host
Whose to say that even when they mention that they are tired
That the contributions to life they have fired
It doesn’t necessarily mean that they are giving in or giving up
But the realization of the life they’ve been given at times does suck
It’s not a mention that is in regard to me or you
But a revelation of thoughts and feelings of what they are going through
My heart goes out to the ones who are truly ill
And fight for you and me so that they can be healed
Having to be strong for us to be happy and not sad
But all the while I’m thinking “That’s really too bad”
