>The Pedestal of Love

>I placed you upon the highest pedestal that I could find
I know my friends thought that I had lost my mind
I gave you my heart, my body, and my soul
We made love like two spirits with a story that had never been told
You gave me secrets that had colored your young Beautiful life
I fell madly in love with you and was ready to make you my wife
We became as close as two people could possibly become
We laugh and then we cried for the relationship did succumb
The life that we shared was like something so far from the past
After it was over I had people tell me that they knew it would never last
I felt sad for all the things that we wanted & never got a chance to share
Like the little baby girl that would look like you and have my nappy hair
Or the house we would buy to spend the rest of our days
Spending hours in rocking chairs outside as we said, always
Holding each other in arms as warm as Sunshine
Speaking words of love & encouragement to heights unclimbed
Being the strength to weaknesses that each of us had
Or the Ying to the other’s Yang and knowing that made both of us glad
The simple intimacies of a relationship based purely on true love
Made us one and the same fitting like fingers inside the perfect glove
We’d lost out on the wonderful way we used to dance
Holding our bodies so closely as if we both were in a trance
Knowing looks & sayings lost on the eyes and ears of new mates
Useless emotions and hopeless love does not make up for past mistakes
Being fully persuaded that what we once had endured
Was the life of love that others once allured
Now you are with you and I am with me
The question is “Was it ever meant to be”?
