Life will come to do what it’s supposed to do

Today started out like any other day, until I did my normal routine of checking for reviews on my first novel. It would happen at the very moment that my second novel is to come out that I would receive a very negative review. I had to laugh at myself because my first reaction was “Huh?” I thought maybe the reviewer had placed the wrong review on my book’s page. Shocked by the review, I realized that it was real. I sent the link to the three people who mattered most with regards to my book; my editor, my #1 fan, and my partner. I decided in that moment that I was going to be okay and that this is something to be expected because everyone is not going to like everything. I had a good laugh about it and then asked myself “What are you going to do about it?” I told myself that I would press on and let it roll down my back just enough to keep me in check; to keep me motivated, to work harder, and to do better.

For the past two years, the Creator has been toughening my spirit so to speak. He has been preparing me for the trials that are going to come because I know that there will be many. He has been putting down in my spirit all of the necessary tools I’ll need to do my job. He has also been faithful to place the right people in my midst to help me to continue on. You see, I believe in my heart that I have a purpose as a messenger and I cannot let anything get in the way of doing that. There are going to be times that people may not agree with what I am doing or what I have to say but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that I say it.

One of the toughest things in life is to do what you believe that you are called to do in the face of opposition. But the key is to not question yourself, but to move forward. There will be many obstacles but I know that I must remain calm, and know that life is coming to do exactly what it is supposed to do; challenge me.

Synopsis:

Unresolved issues of being left behind and abandoned due to the lack of value in the REAL estate we call family and friends can turn our world upside down. This story is about the lives of several people who have been treated like property, unwilling to be possessed or even cared for.

Kori, Jerard, Darius, Jay, Layla, Karina, and Coco have something in common; they all have abandonment issues. Even though their issues of abandonment stem from some of the same situations, how they play out is different in nature. Whether it’s guilt and shame, a revolving door of relationships, daddy issues, attention seeking, insecurities and self-doubt, fear of being abandoned, or trust issues; they all allow their issues to manifest negatively in all of their relationships.

Are they doomed to repeat some of the same cycles of physical or emotional abandonment like being cast aside, deserted, discarded, neglected, shunned, and even rejected? Or will they go to the extreme opposite to ensure that the cycle ends with them?

We have a division that comes from within

I found out that being of the same color doesn’t make you of the same skin

My brother not of the same mother hates me because I am gay.

Once unified by race until he found out that I was that way

I love Jesus just as much as he and other Christians did

But my entrance into their world was something they would eventually forbid

My sister-friend no longer talks to me because she is ashamed of who I am

No longer wishing to be in my company so the door she did slam

A target with three strikes that hardly define the person that is me

Born a woman, Black, and a dyke; in another time might find me hanging from a tree

I wonder how my brothers and sisters in faith and color would really feel

Would their emotions be mixed or would they think “That’s one less in which we have to deal”

I Call You King

I call you King

but if you never learn who you are what does that mean

I call you warrior cause in you I see the fight

But I also see the weakness that’s necessary like what day is to night
I call you messenger and hope for all
but if you desecrate your gift you reject the call
I call you smith carrying words of life and vocal
you are amongst a dying bread but you’re leaving us unhopeful
it’s a lot of young brothers who drop the baton
running empty handed waving flags like wands
Surrendering to any and everything except for who they really are
making intentional mistakes being afraid to be that star
It doesn’t matter because we see your indelible light
Even though you try to hide it deep within it still shines bright
It would be ashamed and another lost cause
if you allowed yourself to fall victim to societal laws
When you know that who you are is less flesh & more spirit
When you lay down at night the calling is so loud you can’t help but hear it
The day that we can die can come way too soon
I think for some of us we run from the light into eternal doom
Some things we do given chance after chance
The Creator tries to woe us through a type of romance
but the calling on your own life you`ve constantly defied
I feel sad that in the end it’s you who’ll be denied

But even still I call you King

In hopes that soon you’ll learn exactly what that means

I appreciate how you not only honor me but how you honor God
And how you have my back most when times are hard
I love how you love the word just as much as I do
And how you realize that its better to always remain true
And how you are a Godly woman who loves me without end
And how you’re not easily to offend
And how your energy is to always help someone in need
And your immediate response is not that they’re trying to get over or their intent is greed
I love the qualities that you possess

Mostly because they’re naturally spiritual at best
You think highly of me and are always there to support
And pertaining to me you always give others a good report
You are my Queen and I your King
And to me that means everything
With you I feel as though I have already won
You’re the Apple of my eye and all things under the sun
You’ve always loved me with your whole heart
And for that reason my love will be til death do us part
I thank you for your love my Queen
I thank you so much for everything
