How Could You?

How could you love someone and not know who they are
How could you pay attention to their essence up close if you’re so far
How could you not hear the words that go unspoken
How could you allow their spirit to become broken
How could you not love so deep as to hear
How could you not know the things in which they fear
How could you not see with eyes of understanding
How could you in all these things yet be so demanding
How could you not know what’s yours has become theirs
How could their visions be met with blank stares
How could you be a couple but yet be so single
How could two hearts beat together but not be intermingled
How could you not share the point of your destination
How could you not have sentiment in their frustrations
How could either of you not know when enough is enough
How could you believe that all relationships are this tough
How could you not know their hope is that you feel as they do
It’s a certainty that you don’t feel it too

Speaking To Offense

We try hard not to offend others but at what cost
Is it at the expense of our own feelings that get lost
How can we tell our feelings to another so as not to offend
The rules of the perception of others is what we try to defend
Our own perceptions we lose when we choose not to speak
Leaving ourselves open ultimately feeling petty and weak
Trying hard to get our point across without offending
Choosing carefully our words so later hearts won’t need mending
Sometimes its not the words chosen that are openly spoken
Not even the tone that leave lives shattered and broken
It’s the perception of the words to the one received
Choosing to hear the words in context and not be deceived
Those words spoken are their perception and to them reign true
Being open to their hearts and be receptive all the way through
Holding their words as the feelings in which they believe
If those words truly aren’t so then give them what you conceive
Lives broken because of unspoken perceptions
Leaving them to their own devices because of their Vision’s selections
If perceptions are not open to positive discussion
The mind will conclude to its own production
Producing hurt feelings because of what they did not share
Unspoken words due to possible offense is a heavy cross to bear
