We have a division that comes from within
I found out that being of the same color doesn’t make you of the same skin
My brother not of the same mother hates me because I am gay.
Once unified by race until he found out that I was that way
I love Jesus just as much as he and other Christians did
But my entrance into their world was something they would eventually forbid
My sister-friend no longer talks to me because she is ashamed of who I am
No longer wishing to be in my company so the door she did slam
A target with three strikes that hardly define the person that is me
Born a woman, Black, and a dyke; in another time might find me hanging from a tree
I wonder how my brothers and sisters in faith and color would really feel
Would their emotions be mixed or would they think “That’s one less in which we have to deal”
