About Kai

Kai Mann, a Florida native dreamt of writing a novel since the age of twelve. Even at a young age Kai knew that writing a book meant a need for life experience before she could ever put her dream into action. She never stopped writing though. Kai read Judy Blume novels; while unbeknownst to her mother she would sneak to read Harlequin romance novels as well. Although her favorite book was the Bible, she incessantly wrote poetry and stories, doodled, scribbled, and even practice signing her name on anything that she could get her hands on. When Kai’s mother recognized her love for writing she bought her first composition notebook. Little did her mother know that would start a journey of journaling throughout her life.

Once in high school, Kai was asked to write a poem for an English Literature assignment.  Kai wrote a poem about love in the shape of a heart that earned an A+ for that assignment.  That A+ would fuel her to continue to write poetry about anything dealing with life lessons which always seem to center around love.

In 2009 Kai became an independent contract writer for Examiner.com where she holds the title of the Detroit Best Friend Examiner. Kai’s articles purposefully incite a deeper level of thought when it comes to friendship.

It wasn’t until 2009 when Kai realized that the Creator had given her a story to tell. Kai wrote her debut novel 30 Day Notice, and published it under her publishing company called Scriblical Vibez in 2011. Kai created Scriblical Vibez out of a need to publish content that she believed would challenge others to think and create a vibrational change in the universe. She believed that the creator gave her the name to remind her that she and her descendants would be responsible to scribe biblically while creating a message type vibe.

Kai is a proud member of the Motown Writers Network where she volunteers at conferences, workshops, and assists in publishing content on the network’s site. She has been interviewed by Sylvia Hubbard on the Michigan literary Network Blogtalk radio, HD Campbell’s The Author’s corner, and Sistahs On The Shelf. Kai has also made guest appearances on the The Relationship Party radio show, “What’s the Tea with Sheri-oke”,  and The Red Remote TV Show. Kai has also graced the July 2012 cover of SSL Magazine, and in January 2013 she was featured in Proud To Be Out Magazine.

Kai’s favorite poets are Maya Angelou and Nikki Giovanni while some of her favorite authors include the late E. Lynn Harris and James Baldwin, Iyanla Vanzant, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, Terry McMillan, Audre Lorde, James Earl Hardy, Christopher Rice, Eric Jerome Dickey, Alice Walker, and Sister Souljah.

Kai is currently working on her second novel Abandoned Property which focuses on the issues of abandonment and a book of poems called In My Mother’s House.
